POSITION SUMMARY: This position will report to the Area QC Manager. The Foreman directs limestone and clay quarries, crushing, and raw storage areas to maintain the raw materials supply for Cement plant operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overall responsibility for the efficient supply and quality control of raw materials to the production process. Manages all phases of mining and crushing of raw materials.
- Conducts regular reviews of mining and resource planning for the Quarry and Clay Quarry mining operations.
- Responsible for scheduling drilling and blasting.
- Maintain knowledge of and take steps to insure compliance with environmental regulations associated with mine operations (air, noise, vibration, water aspects).
- Reviews and evaluates all types of equipment to determine: fit for application, durability, value, serviceability, warranties, compatibility, and standardization throughout the quarry and advises/recommends to management.
- Directs preventive maintenance and repairs to all quarry equipment. Writes work and purchase orders as appropriate.
- Assigns work duties on equipment by prioritizing work that needs to be done. Controls scheduling and overtime to maintain a cost-effective operation.
- Ability to maintain a high level of productivity from employees.
- Manages employees, equipment and resources to budgeted targets
- Evaluates employees and provides feedback on a regular basis. Employees needing improvement are provided with clear steps to improve.
- Develops performance and training plans for employees.
- Responsible for work schedules and Kronos time entry for all assigned personnel.
- Works to establish and maintain positive relationships with community and business leaders, regulatory personnel and local citizens on behalf of the Company.
- Responsible for regular safety training of all assigned personnel. Conducts regular safety training and is responsible for assigned departmental safety records.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer college degree and/or related years of experience in the mining industry
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate water licensing from the State.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain ATF Possessors license through Martin Marietta.
- Knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement.
- Intimate Knowledge of cement chemistry strongly preferred
- Well versed in the operation of Cross-belt analyzers strongly preferred.
- Prefer basic surveying/profiling skills, knowledge of mine planning, extensive blasting knowledge, basic geology knowledge, heavy equipment operating skills of all types of large mining machinery, and strong knowledge of MSHA regulations regarding open pit mining.
- Must have knowledge of land reclamation associated with kiln dust disposal, crushers, feeders, dust collectors, blasting, explosives, conveyors and storage equipment
- Knowledge of all types of mobile equipment, scheduling contractors and equipment for repairs
- Must possess excellent communication skills
- Willing and able to travel.
- Working knowledge of appropriate computer applications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain, climb ladders and stairs, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces to inspect and gather information or inspect plant equipment.
- Ability to enter enclosed spaces and climb up onto elevated structures
- Ability to speak clearly in English and be understood in conversation and on telephones/radios
- Ability to operate quarry mobile equipment
- Ability to stoop and bend to pick up and lift items weighing up to 60 pounds – as much as 20 times per day
- Ability to read, understand and follow instructions written in English
- Ability to spell and write legibly to complete reports and written instructions
- Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold and rain)
- Must work in conditions including dust, vibration, noise, heights, confined spaces.
