Title: Director of Inventory Control

Reports to: Charlie Winsor, SVP of Operations

Based in: 80% Distribution Center  in Middle Village, NY / 20% travel

Compensation:

Job purpose: The Director of Inventory Control will provide direction, control, and vision that will drive inventory integrity, accuracy, and reporting. The Director of IC is responsible for ensuring accurate inventory of product levels by managing internal stock movement and by monitoring goods received, product storage, order picking and packing and stock transfer transactions. This position will manage the development and maintenance of all inventory control processes and procedures including cycle counts, inventory adjustments, and stock transfers, while supporting process improvements to enhance productivity in the warehouse. The Director of IC will create, establish, and reinforce policies and procedures on the handling of damaged and obsolete goods. They will manage and monitor the RTV process as well as create a process for customer returns. This role requires a seasoned inventory professional who is technically strong in inventory best practices, quality assurance, asset management, damage mitigation, obsolescence, and process control. They will work collaboratively with the DC and Branch leadership team as well as the finance department. Strong data and analytical skills are required.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Create and establish policies and procedures on the handling of damages and disposal process. 
  • Work with purchasing and the branches to identify obsolete equip, parts, and supplies.
  • Understand the day-to-day operations and processes of the warehouse. Maintain inventory by location system. Perform and supervise cycle counts, investigate missing inventory. Generate inventory adjustments to inventory system.
  • Devise and implement strategy to control costs associated with inventory.
  • Ensure the accuracy of inventory levels and costs reported in financial statements, as well as ensuring the integrity of inventory balances in the branches and DC
  • Work with DC and Branch leadership to implement shortage control programs to reduce loss; participate in system design changes when necessary
  • Complete audits focusing on inventory and shrink; produce reports summarizing findings
  • Driving continuous improvement
  • Develop and publish scorecards for branches, corporate, and the DC
  • Develop a return to vendor program working with accounting & purchasing.
  • Establish procedures for customer returns (including damages)

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred; The Director of Inventory Control will have established a proven track record of success in prior inventory/accounting roles with substantial inventory responsibilities. They should have strong technical accounting experience, knowledge and understanding of GAAP as it relates to inventory and experience in multiple businesses. The candidate must be committed to continuous process improvement.
