Job Statement: Responsible for installation, maintenance and the troubleshooting/repair of mechanical/electrical HVAC systems and the associated pneumatic/electric/electronic controls.  Works under general supervision.  Troubleshoots and resolves a variety of system problems.

Essential/Critical Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure control systems operate as intended.
  • Help renew the maintenance contract.
  • Identify and promote other work to insure the building systems operate properly.
  • Develop a plan to accomplish the expected result and meet commitments.
  • Provide maintenance, Check/Test/Start and troubleshooting/repair on advanced mechanical/electrical HVAC systems as well as pneumatic/electric/electronic control systems.
  • Service atmospheric and power draft boilers < 100 H.P., perform combustion efficiency testing and burner adjustment/tuning for proper operation.
  • Service refrigeration systems < 100 Ton, expansion valves, associated copper tubing, and coils for HVAC equipment.
  • Assists senior technicians in troubleshooting and repairing network problems. Receives general guidance and instructions.
  • Must understand calculations and devices used for air and water flow in HVAC systems. Must be able to setup controls to properly read and display the information. Additionally must be able to properly take readings utilizing balance test equipment. Assist in balancing systems.
  • Light to moderate engineering, design on small projects utilizing company standards.
  • Ensure customer’s needs are meet by providing quotes where appropriate and interacting with sales to assist with the problem resolution.
  • Perform customer training on systems and controls as per SmartEdge standards.
  • Perform assignments following proper procedures per company standards, insuring customer satisfaction at the completion of the project. (Minimize Callbacks, target goal of 0).
  • Must be proficient at pipefitting and sheet metal install.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical system up to 480v.
  • Must have completed all Mechanical Technician M-1 Entry level tasks.
  • Must acquire operational knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems (Required Knowledge Base).
  • Must have completed Schneider Electric HVAC certification with a grade of 85% or have equivalent training and pass the final exam.
  • Must have completed Schneider Electric pneumatic certification with a grade of 85% or have equivalent training and pass the final exam.
  • Knowledge and application of the top 50 end devices.
  • Universal EPA Certification.

Education and Experience:

  • Team player within the complete organization.  Honesty, requesting and providing support as necessary.
  • Minimum High School diploma of GED and knowledge of Roof Top Units & atmospheric boilers.
  • Preferred 2 year AAS degree in mechanical or electrical field.
  • Minimum 1.5 years experience as a Mechanical Technician M-1 or 3 years actual experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, the theory of component operation and overall system interaction.
  • Preferred experience in computer operation and DDC control systems.
