Job Description
HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC: Inspects, maintains, diagnose, adjust, repair, assembles, readies and overhauls construction machinery, equipment, and vehicles, such as off road trucks, highway trucks and trailers, bulldozers, graders, scrapers, excavators, skid loaders, and other mechanized equipment used in construction. May lead and direct the work of others, and may be assigned the lead for a specific project or area. Follow the guidelines set out by management. Represent, implement and enforce the policies including safety policies and procedures established by JB Holland management, in addition to other duties as may be assigned. Reports to: Mechanic/Shop Manager and Project Superintendant/Foreman as may be assigned 

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license Class A CDL, Hazard and Tanker endorsements
  • Maintain in favorable status with JB Holland’s Motor vehicle insurance carrier
  • Basic Computer Skills 

Knowledge of:

  • Equipment maintenance & repair procedures
  • Safe use of basic hand and powered mechanical tools
  • Safe use of cutting and welding equipment
  • Cat sis software
  • Electronic Technician
  • Air conditioner diagnostic and repair
  • Electrical System diagnostic and repair
  • Hydraulic system diagnostic and repair
  • Fuel system diagnostic and repair
  • Provide own basic mechanical tools
  • Work away from home requiring overnight stays possibly week at a time or longer
  • 40+ hours per week, 11+ hours per day typical
  • Attend and participate in all training classes required by JB Holland
  • Being able to climb onto and around equipment being operated caring awkward objects
  • Being exposed to extreme weather conditions cold and hot
  • Provide own transportation to project site. Overnight stays week at a time required occasionally longer stays may be required 

Responsibilities:

  • Grease, inspect, start check all fluid levels daily for all equipment in fleet
  • Perform routine scheduled maintenance and record actions
  • Perform repairs as needed and record actions
  • Perform maintenance and repairs according to manufacturers recommendations and/or industry best practices
  • Clean/organize work area
  • Order and maintain supplies (inventory) required to perform tasks at hand
  • Schedule and prioritize repairs
  • Work harmoniously with project foreman, superintendant, and other crew members
  • Order parts required to repair equipment
  • Weld, cut, fabricate parts and equipment
  • Supervise and direct routine maintenance by crew members as may be assigned.
  • Communicate to Equipment & Shop Manager equipment issues on a daily basis
