JOB PURPOSE:
The Carpenter 2 is responsible for safely completing erection and dismantling assignments in accordance with Safway safety guidelines, ANSI, Federal, state, and local laws.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform all aspects of an erection and dismantling project safely and efficiently: Banding of equipment for loading and unloading trucks, staging and mobilization, setting scaffold bases and framing, erecting scaffolding, dismantling scaffolding, tying off of scaffolding equipment, hoisting of equipment, and climbing ladders to access scaffolding. While performing the aforementioned tasks, the erector must always be cognizant of erection and dismantling sequencing, project specifications (good understanding of customers need for building access), and all applicable safety guidelines.
- Maintain a safe work site, free of safety hazards by monitoring compliance with safety program requirements. Document and/or communicate safety concerns to appropriate parties.
- Communicate and listen effectively with coworkers, branch manager, and possibly customer (lead erectors).
DESCRIPTION OF NONESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- May perform administrative duties such as yard and jobsite inventory, safety meetings, payroll timesheets, return tickets, change orders, time and material tickets, bill of materials, the reading of blueprints, and other jobsite paper work as assigned both accurately and neatly.
- May also be required to operate company vehicles which may require an active/valid driver’s license (CDL if applicable) DOT Medical Card, DOT driver file, and more specific drug & alcohol testing requirements
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May supervise and train small crews based on size of project and scope of work. Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws. Responsibilities include training employees, assigning and directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. May fill in as E&D Foreman as needed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- Requires at least 3 years of scaffold experience in commercial or industrial markets.
- Has an understanding of Safway’s products
- Requires experience using forklift, hammer, pry-bar, banding tools, power tools (i.e. drill motor, screw guns)
- Requires good oral communication skills
- Requires the ability to present a clean and professional image
- Must be available at non-traditional hours to complete projects according to contract or job requirement
- Requires the ability to do basic math
- Scaffold experience in the commercial or industrial markets is desirable
- Education generally equivalent to a High School diploma is desirable
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and/or hear, and/or use hands and fingers to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, and/or walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move and/or pull up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) of scaffolding equipment, which may include lifting 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) of scaffolding above shoulders (6-7 feet) to erect and dismantle scaffolding and to load onto trucks or racks. The employee must also be capable of continuously carrying/wearing harness and work belt weighing 25-50 pounds while erecting and dismantling scaffolding. Must also be capable of climbing onto trailers or trucks and onto racks to secure and move equipment as well as climbing ladders to access scaffolding up to high precarious places. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee regularly works in high, precarious places, is exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dust, non-weather heat, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is also regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may work in varying degrees of confined space. The noise level is usually moderate, but may be loud at certain times while working at construction job sites. There may be work related travel.
