SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Assistant Safety Director assists in the implementation of the Company’s safety program to ensure all job sites are safe, healthy and accident free.   Maintains compliance of safety and governmental regulations by identifying and analyzing problems and implementing improvements.  Responsible for the adherence to government mandated requirements as well as company safety policies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conducts and documents all accident investigations, safety violations and unsafe working conditions, reporting directly to the Safety Director
  • Supervises safety staff
  • Provides safety training for all field/office personnel
  • Reviews and monitors subcontractor safety compliance programs
  • Accompanies safety and health insurance inspectors on walk-through tours
  • Insures that job sites are in compliance with required Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) standards
  • Provides consulting services for asbestos/environmental concerns on projects
  • Conducts safety meetings and walks job-sites regularly
  • Develops job safety analysis and special training for employees doing hazardous work
  • Plans and presents safety workshops and training
  • Assists the Safety Director in the development of policies for a safe work environment
  • Insures that all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted as needed
  • Demonstrates commitment to a safe and injury-free work environment through own actions and mentoring others
  • Administers job-site employee drug testing program and monitors compliance for subcontractors adherence to the program

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • BS degree in Occupational Safety or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification with a equivalent combination of training and related experience required.
  • 7-10 years of experience. 3-5 years of supervisory skills.  Knowledge of basic HR principles (hiring, discipline, etc.)
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Lead Awareness certification and Asbestos Inspector Certification
  • Computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA Construction standards
  • Successful track record in preventing accidents, avoiding injuries and minimizing liability
  • Training in all aspects of safety and loss prevention such as fall prevention and excavation-trenching
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and Local safety regulations and industry requirements
  • Efficiently and professionally communicates to all contacts, regardless of position
  • Meets or exceeds specific deadlines, project schedules or other requirements, able to organize work
  • Knowledge and expertise in electrical protection, fall protection, fire protection, hazardous communications, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, and scaffolding
  • Makes professional, educated and sensible decisions
  • Able to creatively solve problems and be flexible
  • Reads, writes and understands and communicates clearly and professionally
  • Functions effectively as part of a team
  • Self-starter with an instinct for determining what is in the best interest of the Company
  • Can train, mentor and supervise others

 

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • EM-385-1 Certification
  • DOD/Army Corp of Engineers experience preferred

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/JOB CONDITIONS:

Job involves some sitting, often working on a computer involving repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.  There is frequent walking, standing, bending and reaching, including being able to navigate job-sites. Travel may be expected about 75% of the time.
