We are currently seeking Ironworker for an industrial project on Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. (Tropical Island in the South Pacific.) You will be working overseas for San Juan Construction in partnership with the US government.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Performs any combination of following duties to raise, and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures or structure   frameworks, working as a member of crew. All work to be performed in a safe and professional manner. 

  1. Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
  2. Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.
  3. Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
  4. Guides member, using tab line (rope) or rides on member in order to guide it into position.
  5. Pulls, pushes, or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
  6. Forces members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools.
  7. Aligns rivet holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by drifting drift pins or handle of wrench through holes.
  8. Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members, using plumb bob and level.
  9. Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
  10. Cuts and welds steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment.
  11. May specialize in erecting or repairing specific types of structures and be designated accordingly, as Bridge-Maintenance Worker; Chimney Builder, Reinforced Concrete; Scaffold Builder, Metal; Structural-Steel Equipment Erector.
  12. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to get along with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

REQUIREMENTS

   Educational and experience preferences: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. 2-4 years experience in duties described above and/or equivalent combination of experience and technical training or apprenticeship program. Previous experience with hoisting and hoisting certifications preferred.

   Workers should be able to:  Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked; Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy; Look at flat drawings, pictures and blueprints and visualize how they would look as solid objects with height, width, and depth; See detail in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings; and work easily and skillfully with hands.  Physically, workers must be able to:  Lift and carry objects weighing no more that 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; Climb up on and balance on ladders, scaffolding, or stairs; See well (either naturally or with correction); Stand for long periods; Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to reach hard to get at work areas;  and use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.
