Job Title: Payroll Clerk
Reports To: Payroll Manager

General Purpose
A Payroll Clerk is responsible for the time\card entry for the company and any and all other duties that might be assigned.
Duties
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to federal, state and local regulations and laws as they pertain to payroll. (SS wage limits, taxable/nontaxable compensation; reporting deadlines; etc.)
- Work in a collaborative manner in a payroll department of two employees.
- Respond to all customer requests timely, accurately and professionally.
- Maintain organized and accurate records to ensure union, general liability, worker’s compensation, job and all other audits and research can be handled with minimal preparation.
- Assist union, worker’s compensation, owner and governmental auditors in locating and understanding payroll records needed to complete audits.
- Collect, maintain, organize database of employee locations to facilitate efficiency payroll distribution.
- Verify accuracy of timecards, applying union, labor law and Saunders policy guidelines.
- Perform all data entry of timesheets for all employees both union and non-union, using an in-house system. (Average 600 Employees)
- Editing payroll entries to minimize errors; ensure that all active employees are paid; all requested transactions are processed, update and correctly distribute within established deadlines.
- Accurately record and edit vacation and sick time usage from timecard, assist employees when they request a reconciliation of their vacation or sick time balance reported on their paystub.
- Be responsible for the impact payroll transactions have on expense ledgers, such as the general ledger and job costing ledgers. Learn how to correct errors, and do them timely.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism while working with sensitive payroll related information.
- Meet deadlines and demonstrate the ability to prioritize well.
- Must demonstrate excellent self-control when under time restricted work processes; thus maintaining a clear focus on objective rather than the current challenges.
- Work closely with team members, displays a positive “can-do” attitude, manner is courteous and professional towards all internal and external customers, which facilitates a cooperative and efficient working environment.
- Handle, or direct to correct accountant, all concerns of internal and external customers efficiently and professionally.
- Accurately box and label all documents to be placed in archives.
- May be subject to overtime and holiday work on an as needed basis.
- Perform all assigned tasks accurately and efficiently with minimal rework and demonstrate the ability to learn from mistakes.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience
- No specific educational requirements.
- 2 years of payroll experience in the construction field or other costing / manufacturing environment.
- Intermediate Excel and Outlook skills.
- Payroll administration experience or other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; abstract and concrete reasoning ability; simple math skills; complex reading skills; simple writing skills; ability to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions; the ability to influence people; ability to synthesize, coordinate, analyze, compile, compute, copy, and compare data; ability to perceive pertinent detail in pictorial, graphic, verbal or tabular format; ability to comprehend and follow instructions; ability to perform complex or varied tasks; ability to make generalizations, evaluations or decisions without immediate supervision; ability to accept and carry out responsibility for direction, control and planning; and to maintain a work-pace appropriate to a given work load.
