The Construction Safety Consultant will be under the full time employment of Construction Safety Services & Risk Management Inc. Construction Safety & Risk Management Services, Inc. is an on-site Safety Specialist company serving the construction industry. Established in 1996, we work with companies as small as two employees and as large as 10,000 employees across Central and Southern Illinois. The Construction Safety Consultant will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA 1926 and other safety regulations on contractor construction projects. The Construction Safety Consultant will work with construction contractors to review their safety programs, inspect construction projects, develop and implement corrective actions, ensuring that training is conducted in an effective manner, and implement the company’s contractor safety programs and other compliance activities required for construction projects. This position will administer and oversee various compliance programs, procedures, and policies associated with federal, state, and local regulations. 

Knowledge:

  • Loss control policies, practices and procedures
  • Exposure, safety, environment and construction concepts and principles
  • Sales concepts for prospecting and retaining business
  • Current knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, DOT).
  • Worker’s Compensation (claim management, training, etc.)

Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong relationship, consulting skills required to interact with managers, third parties and team members
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to operate a personal computer and other business equipment, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

Position Requirements

  • BS or BA degree from an accredited school in Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Health or related Construction Management Program.
  • Equivalent safety management and/or inspection experience may be considered as a degree substitute. Consideration given to general industry experience also.
  • 5- 10 years’ experience implementing safety, health and environmental regulations and/or inspection programs within industry or consulting.
  • Must possess or be able to achieve OSHA 500 Certification and Construction Safety and Health Technologist (CHST) credentials within six months of hire.  Company will sponsor and finance certifications and credentials. C.S.P, A.S.P, CHST, OHST preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience performing regulatory analyses including interpretation of OSHA and industrial hygiene rules, regulations, and guidance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
  • Travel: Travel by automobile is required to support construction projects and for associated meetings. Overnight travel is anticipated to be 10%.  All travel expenses will be provided for.  Gas card will be provided.
