What We Are Looking For:

Dickten Masch is a thermoplastics and thermoset molder on a strong growth track. As part of this growth, we are looking to expand and deepen our engineering competence by adding a strong candidate to our team. Our current open position is an Automation Controls Technician. This position will be an integral member of the team. The Automation Controls Technician supports Engineering with equipment fabrication, installation, validation/qualification and modifications.  Also evaluates and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, parts, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.  Troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on new and existing manufacturing equipment as well as develop and maintain equipment files.  Assist manufacturing associates in equipment set-up and set-up simplification projects to support production.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for day to day efficiencies of automated equipment.
  • Support production on multiple shifts to address any downtime, equipment malfunction or product testing errors.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance programs and documentation associated with these activities.
  • Responsible for equipment design input, fabrication, installation and validation.
  • Work with engineering and management to build and maintain a spare parts inventory for new and existing equipment.
  • Provide advanced design and development of automation systems and equipment intended to enhance production efficiency.
  • Provide in-depth machine control programming for automation equipment and quality inspection processes, including support of existing equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Robotics, PLC, HMI, Drive Control and inspection cameras.
  • Knowledge about hydraulics/pneumatics and other electro-mechanical systems, motors and linear actuators.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting new and existing automation equipment.
  • Develop, evaluate, improve and document manufacturing processes with emphasis on standardized work.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering and Maintenance departments to develop, coordinate and implement technical training for employees.
  • Serves as a cross functional member of the New Product Development team with a role to optimize the manufacturing process and foster a robust process and Bill of Manufacture.
  • Employ continuous improvement lean tools and lead teams to implement Kanban, SMED, VSM, Kaizen, 5S, etc. and Lean methods in numerous areas.

Preferred Background:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical or Trade School background is preferred.
  • Background in programming applications.
  • Experience with an Automated Assembly environment a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present information to top management, internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment designs, drawings and diagrams.
  • CAD/Pro E experience.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing concepts and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Understanding complex system designs.
