Job Summary 

The Environmental Manager is responsible for managing environmental compliance on large heavy highway design/build and bid build infrastructure and building projects in the Southeast region of the United States. This includes managing the overall environmental process, working as lead environmental contact for owner and project staff.

Essential Functions

Manage overall environmental process for various Southeast heavy highway, road and bridge projects to include but not limited to:

  • Manage owner and agency coordination
  • Lead environmental contact for owner and project staff
  • Resolving environmental issues
  • Oversee work of environmental compliance inspectors (ECI)
  • Manage budgets in excess of one million dollars
  • Critical path schedule management
  • Preparation of applications for permits and government approvals and project environmental compliance plans
  • Conducting field inspections to ensure compliance to permit conditions and requirements
  • Ensure project compliance is documented
  • Manage work of crews
  • Preparing and conducting environmental awareness training
  • Instituting corrective actions and keeping projects in compliance

Required Skills & Experience

  • Critical thinking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel within Southeast region of the U.S.
  • Strong technical skills in permitting, environmental regulation, permit and environmental document preparation.
  • Experience in construction environmental compliance, particularly NEPA, Section 404, air and water permitting, storm water management and SPCC as it relates to heavy highway, road and bridge construction projects
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, and bluebeam
  • 10 plus years of heavy highway environmental construction, consulting and/or DOT experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Natural Resources or related field
