Horizontal Boring & Tunneling Co. is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill a Diesel Mechanic position in our maintenance shop located in Exeter, Nebraska. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy construction equipment, hydraulic systems and related work. The company is willing to train a self-motivated candidate. Responsibilities:

As a member of our team your responsibilities will include:

  • Specializing in the maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment and diesel systems
  • Using technical skills to diagnose, evaluate and make appropriate repairs to company equipment and vehicles.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on all company vehicles and equipment which includes required inspections as well as annual Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections; including but not limited to servicing tire changes, electrical, maintenance, etc.
  • Completing all necessary documentation timely and correctly, including but not limited to; repair orders, service truck logs, core and warranty tags, and parts slips.
  • Working effectively in a diverse work environment, using excellent judgment at all times, performing duties in a safe manner, and assuring professional quality of services to all external and internal customers.
  • Complying with all company policies and procedures.
  • Performing job responsibilities in a garage/shop environment and in various outdoor weather conditions as needed.
  • All other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Working safely at all times.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical principles for diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical, power train, chassis, and preventive maintenance inspections and applications.
  • Prefer at least five (5) years experience in the maintenance of heavy construction equipment and hydraulic systems maintenance.
  • Trade school degree in diesel mechanics or closely related field.
  • Possess a valid operator's license with a satisfactory driving background.
  • CDL Class A -- Strongly preferred.
  • Highly attentive to detail.
  • Sound judgment and problem solving skills.
  • Efficiently manage time and workload which includes prioritizing, organizing, and following through on a variety of tasks, assignments, and projects to meet deadlines.
  • Welding experience helpful.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift 75 pounds, ability to stoop, bend, climb and crawl without restrictions and must be able to pass a DOT physical examination.
  • Driven to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, only as needed.
  • Occasional overnight travel, as necessary.
  • Work weekends only as needed during periods of high demand.
