Position Overview:

Croell, Inc. is a privately-held regional construction company with over 100 multi-state locations. We are a major producer of concrete and asphalt road construction in the Midwest and are currently looking for a highly motivated, experienced and productive individual to join our operations as an Asphalt Roller Operator. This individual is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Breakdown Rollers, Rubber Tire Rollers and Finish Rollers. This position is seasonal and will report to the Foreman.

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt
  • Operate the roller and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
  • Safely operate roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling sub-grade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness
  • Determine speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the Roller
  • Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required
  • May also be required to operate Steel Drum and Pad Foot Rollers to compact and seal earth fills, sub-grades and flexible base
  • Be prompt and on time for work
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and management
  • Additional duties as assigned by management (Above list may not be all-inclusive)

Preferred Skills and Knowledge for Job:

  • Strong work ethic: Dedicated and hard working
  • Knowledge of Rollers and other heavy equipment is required
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience operating Asphalt Breakdown Rollers, Rubber Tire Rollers and / or Asphalt Finish Rollers is required
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience within the road construction industry
