Primary Function:  

Assists Controller with technical and/or complex accounting and reporting tasks; provides supervision to clerical staff in areas relevant to their areas of responsibility or as delegated by the Controller.  Maintains procedures for accounting department.

Typical Duties

  1. Assists bookkeepers, Contract Administration, Project Management and company vendors with state and local tax issues. Maintains tax rate changes in Accounting system.
  1. Supervises bookkeepers and supports them with accounts payable questions and problems as needed.
  1. Provides system assistance to bookkeepers, Contract Administration and Project management including setting up GL Accounts and Phase codes.
  1. Coordinates workflow between bookkeepers to ensure invoices are entered daily in the document management system. Provides assistance to bookkeepers and Project Managers throughout invoice workflow process.
  1. Prepares Intercompany Billings. Records Intercompany transactions from parent company and for joint ventures.
  1. Reconciles Pcard transactions and provides support to bookkeepers in recording Pcard transactions, including review and approval of weekly entry. Provides cardholders support for Pcards from application to use and reporting for cards.
  1. Reconciles all accrual and prepaid accounts and prepares schedules for review by Controller. Prepares closing journal entries including overhead allocations and amortization entries.
  1. Reviews all coding done by Bookkeepers daily/weekly to ensure that items are posted accurately and timely. Reviews and approves journal entries.
  1. Verifies contract values monthly utilizing Federal online systems.
  1. Assists with Accounting and foreign currency transactions for overseas joint ventures.
  1. Reconciles Balance Sheet accounts monthly. Assists Controller with monthly reporting and reconciliations.
  1. Provides support for banking functions for Accounts Payable and Payroll, including initiating wire transfers and submitting payroll batches.
  1. Coordinates AP closing assuring that the bookkeepers and project management are aware of closing deadlines.
  1. Prepares monthly financial statements including consolidated financials. Assists Controller with annual Financial Statement Audit.
  1. Special Projects as assigned by Controller or CFO

 

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

Educational and experience requirements include: Four year accounting degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience as an accounting manager or higher in the construction industry.  Good working knowledge and understanding of typical accounting policies, procedures, and software applications is essential.  Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
