In March 2015, Simon Contractors acquired Hills Materials in Rapid City, SD. Under Simon Contractors, Hills Materials has continued to flourish as an asphalt paving and concrete products contractor and supplier in the Rapid City area and across the state of South Dakota and Northern Wyoming.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of:

MANUFACTURING INTERN

This position will be available to start in May/early June. 

Summary: Under direct supervision, assists horizontal construction personnel in planning and building work by optimizing resource utilization and minimizing costs. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:

• Perform aggregate sampling and gradation testing at quarries, gravel pits and testing lab sites.
• Assists Quality Control technicians and managers with lab duties related to materials testing and mix designs as needed. Assist with hot mix asphalt and ready mix concrete mix designs and trail batching as required.
• Works with the Quality Control and crusher teams in a safe and professional manner.
• Ability to work independently as a tester with limited supervision.

Requirements:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar is preferred.
• Intern should possess good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
• Previous materials experience desired, but not mandatory.
• Basic computer skills including MS Word and Excel required.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving history required.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
