Thomas & Hutton has an opening for a motivated and driven Transportation Engineer to join our Savannah, GA office.
The position requires strong understanding of transportation and roadway design with previous experience working on public design projects. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and P.E. license required. Proficiency in Microstation and Geopak/Inroads, and GDOT & SCDOT design policies and plan preparation criteria, is required. Knowledge of highway codes is also a plus.
Typical Duties:
- Development of design plans and specifications.
- Proposal preparations and fee development.
- Visit clients, job sites and consultant offices as needed to support project and business development needs.
- Utilize Microstation and Geopak to design and analyze roadway elements.
- Preparation and review of design calculations.
- Create and monitor scope, schedules and budget for projects and business unit.
- Managing engineering work and interface with other disciplines as needed.
- Communicate and coordinate efforts and ideas.
- Typically handles multiple projects for multiple clients simultaneously.
- May supervise engineers and technicians.
- Tracks projects in Vision/ Microsoft project with intermediate/advanced skill.
- Actively participates in civic and professional organizations.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Registered Professional Engineer required.
Experience: 6+ years experience in design public transportation projects in Georgia and/or South Carolina.
Skills:
- A successful track record of project management, including development/management of scopes, schedules and budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of MicroStation V8 and InRoads or Geopak
- Knowledge of highway codes
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
- The ability to work a regular schedule of 730AM - 530PM Mon-Thurs and 730AM - 1130AM Fri. Some nights and weekends
- Proven ability to multi task, appropriately prioritize workflow and complete tasks
- Highly client service oriented, self-starter, and team player
- Ability to solve complex engineering problems
- Excellent time management skills
