This position will be based from our Longview, Washington location and supports our fab shop and projects in the Pacific Northwest. This is not a telecommuting position.

Piping Detailer
At JH Kelly, the Piping Detailer’s fundamental role is the output of a variety of detailed drawings necessary to pre-fabricate and install the scope of work called for in the contract documents. While individual duties will vary based on the size and scope of each individual project that the detailer may work on, the following is a description of the duties, responsibilities, and requirements that Piping Detailers may be required to provide during their time with JH Kelly.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Read, comprehend, and interpret plan drawings, P&ID and PFD documents, isometric drawings, details, specifications, and material and equipment submittals.
- Use project-assigned CAD/BIM software tools (including CADWorx, Revit, and Navisworks) to produce coordinated 3D models of our scope of work, including necessary supplementary components, supports, and equipment to support the output of fully detailed fabrication and installation drawings.
- Produce detailed fabrication drawings, including piping spools, support fabrication details, and detailed assembly drawings for shop-fabricated assemblies.
- Produce detailed installation drawings, including piping layout drawings, support installation drawings, and spool maps (both isometric and orthographic).
- Produce any required supplemental drawings to accurately convey the scope of work for fabrication and installation. These may include details, sketches, sleeve and penetration drawings, equipment and equipment pad layout drawings, slab insert drawings, and point files for robotic total station layout.
- Generate reports necessary to support estimating, material buyout, fabrication, QA, and field productivity tracking. These may include bills of material, quantity takeoffs, cut lists, weld lists, and system reports.
- Perform site measurement and layout for field routed piping systems as required to produce the above fabrication and installation drawings.
- Adhere to the standards in place for project controls, drawing output, and file management.
- Integrate and maintain a positive relationship with the extended project team, including proactive engagement in problem solving and productivity innovations.
- Commit to and take ownership of managing and meeting project deadlines.
- Actively participate in the RFI process for resolving discrepancies and securing missing information.
- Identify potential routing conflicts with structure and other trades, and work proactively to resolve them.
- Assist in the generation of work packages and drawing document control tracking.
- Create red-line as built models and drawings (as required by contract) and submit to customer.
Experience / Qualifications
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity on the projects
- Process, Mechanical Hydronic, or Plumbing Piping Detailing experience with competence in understanding mechanical and piping drawing
- Proficiency reading P&IDs, piping isometrics, plan drawings, and specifications.
- Experience and proficiency with 3D piping modeling software.
- Ability to work within a flexible organization structure, capable of reporting to multiple parties with a variety of deliverables.
- Ability to interpret and perform additional requirements or tasks without explicit instruction.
- Track record of meeting or beating schedule commitments and project deadlines.
- Effective at oral and written communication.
- Ability to maintain positive and healthy relationships with project team, client representatives, fabrication shop, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ability to maintain positive and healthy relationships within the craft workers, including apprentices, journeymen, supervision, and staff.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficient with Bluebeam Revu PDF software.
- Field experience is preferred
- Previous experience as a piping detailer in Petrochemical, Refining, and/or Industrial Process industries.
- Strong understanding of industrial piping systems, means, methods, codes, and materials.
- Demonstrated competence with AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D piping fabrication software. Working knowledge of CADWorx Plant Professional and ISOGEN is preferred.
