In March 2015, Simon Contractors acquired Hills Materials in Rapid City, SD. Under Simon Contractors, Hills Materials has continued to flourish as a n asphalt paving and concrete products contractor and supplier in the Rapid City area and across the state of South Dakota.

Asphalt Distributor Truck Driver

Summary: Safely and efficiently operate distributor and heavy equipment of various sizes used in road, site or highway construction and paving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned
- Operate distributor truck in the loading and off-loading of hot oil materials.
- Monitor various gauges during operation of vehicle.
- Set spray bar on manual, automatic, or semi-automatic distributors for applying liquid asphalt.
- Performs daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines.
- Checks fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation.
- Keeps accurate log of deliveries and completes required paperwork for billing.
- Assure product quality to the best of the Driver’s ability.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.
- Must keep vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.
- Must clean excess asphalt out of tanks and from spray bars.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
- Possess a solid understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
- Keep track of material on hand in storage tank and notify supervisor notified before additional product is required to maintain adequate supply of material.
Requirements:
- Must maintain a CDL Class A with Tanker endorsement that is required to operate a Distributor Truck - training may be provided.
- Two years of related tractor/trailer driving and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend and reach with hands and arms above the shoulders.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Willing to train the right candidate.
