Job Summary

The Rail Superintendent will be responsible for the on-site management of assigned rail construction projects. The normal scope of these projects include earthwork, drainage systems, CIP box culverts, retaining and crash walls, structural fills, and ballast placement.
This individual will be a strong leader and capable of building a safe, productive, quality team environment. Willing to share their knowledge of rail projects and teach others on the team how to best construct these projects, in addition to providing guidance on equipment operation and techniques. The ideal candidate must be able to perform the duties required including bending, lifting, walking, kneeling, carrying heavy objects and also accommodate the rigorous schedule the position may demand. In addition, a strong working knowledge of safety and the ability to teach and monitor safe work practices is required. A company truck will be provided and travel is a requirement. Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
• Completing daily job reports, tracking production, tracking / reporting crew hours and equipment hours via HCSS Heavy Job software on a company provided I-Pad. Training if required for the software will be provided. Basic computer skills will be required.
• The ability to plan and schedule your crew(s).
• The ability to read and understand plans / civil drawings
• Be motivated and self-supervise as needed.
• Supervise daily safety inspections on all equipment.
• Coordinate and assist with material ordering as needed.
• The ability to communicate with crew foremen and equipment operators is a must.
• Maintaining the company truck in good condition & supplied with commonly used supplies on a daily basis.
• Travel to and from the various job sites as needed, including overnight stays and out of town travel.
• Quality workmanship and competence in performing the tasks associated as well as the ability to communicate issues and needs to your supervision.
• Any other duties as requested.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Knowledge of earthwork, rail work, structural concrete, and underground utilities.
• Knowledge of track construction methods including adjusting, welding, & shifting.
• Knowledge of working with and managing sub-contractors.
• Knowledge of working with a diverse customer base.
• Health & Safety regulations and procedures including proper lifting techniques.
• Accurate record keeping
• Basic computer skills
• Five years’ experience as a Superintendent or Project Foreman.
• Five years’ experience with mainline rail.
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and organized work habits allowing unsupervised work.
