CURRENT OPPORTUNITY:  Plumbing Journeyman Service Technician

 

Position Summary:

The Service Technician is required to carry out the work assigned to them by the Service Manager. They are also responsible for high quality work and their own productivity.  They are expected to provide education and training for apprentices.  This position assembles, installs and repairs plumbing and medgas systems according to project specifications and appropriate trade and building codes.  These systems may consist of pipes, fittings, fixtures and boilers for hydronic heating, water, medgas and drainage systems.  This position requires the team member to stay with the job until it is completed in order to not put them in harm’s way or expose them to potential dangers.

Required Skills:

  • Competent, responsible, organized and team oriented.
  • Strong communication and average computer skills.
  • Strong basic math skills, architectural plans, drawings and mechanical design.
  • Ability to follow orders and directions with minimal to no supervision.
  • Maintain an active state and city license in all city/states you perform work in.
  • Lawfully drive to job sites and locations as needed in multiple states.
  • Can work independently and with others to meet performance goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs all work in a safe manner.  Watches out for fellow team members to ensure they are working in a safe manner as well.  Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required at all times.
  • Excellent customer service interaction and a desire to fix the problem to satisfy the customers’ needs.
  • Explains pricing for customers.
  • Collection of money for services rendered.
  • Responsible for abiding by all safety and conduct policies laid out by Midwestern Mechanical and the different work sites.
  • Diagnoses problems and/or failures in a variety of plumbing and gas systems.
  • Repairs and installs various types of piping including iron, steel, copper and pvc.
  • Works under direct supervision of the Service Manager.
  • Inspects equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Ability to operate powered equipment including hand tools, stationary machines and others as required in a safe manner at all times.
  • Makes decisions by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Maintains a high quality initiative while completing assigned duties.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Tests for leaks in new and repaired systems with compressed air and/or water.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a continuous basis and more than 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to lawfully drive a motor vehicle and maintain a current driver’s license in order to commute to the various current or prospective job sites in the region.
  • Overnight travel as necessary within the region for corporate meetings, on-site project follow-up and conferences.
  • Provides daily direction to assigned Apprentices on the job site and actively participates in training and development of Apprentices.
  • Follows and executes directions and assigned duties.
  • Maintains a positive attitude to drive and build positive morale.
  • Responsible for abiding by all safety and conduct policies laid out by Midwestern Mechanical and the different work sites.
  • Maintains a high quality initiative while completing assigned duties.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Available for overtime upon occasion.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Great mechanical skills and willingness to learn new things.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with management, city officials, on-site customers and other employees.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret written materials, perform basic mathematical computations and use measuring tools.
  • Ability to identify basic trade materials by size, shape and function.

 

 Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Journeyman Plumber license required.
  • Field experience in plumbing as a Journeyman Plumber required.
  • Boiler experience in residential and /or commercial application required. 
  • Field experience in plumbing as a Journeyman Plumber in commercial applications preferred.
  • Medgas certification preferred.
