Summary: Under general supervision, to perform skilled plumbing works in the installation, repair and maintenance of piping systems and plumbing fixtures. Follow company policy and procedures.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, inspects and repairs residential, commercial piping and plumbing equipment concerned with potable water, gas and sewage systems.
  • Troubleshoots plumbing systems.
  • Installs and repairs a variety of plumbing fixtures, appliances, valves and pumps.
  • Capable of working from blueprints.
  • Able to make rough sketches and estimates labor and materials for plumbing installations and repairs.
  • Advises on the selection and purchase of plumbing supplies and equipment.
  • Consults with other trades staff
  • Keeps records and makes reports.
  • Instructs and leads unskilled assistants.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Approved background and references.
  • Must furnish all hand tools.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trades.
  • Must know safety practices and have general knowledge of the plumbing code.
  • Must possess the skill to layout, rough in, top out and perform finish plumbing work.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools, portable power tools and equipment.
  • Locating and marking positions for pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors.
  • Measuring, cutting pipes and using hand and power tools or machines.
  • Testing pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges.
  • Must be able to estimate material and labor costs.
  • Ability to keep records and make reports.
  • Able to follow oral and written directions
  • Able to instruct and lead unskilled assistants.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public, with a focus on quality service to internal staff, external customers.
  • A valid (company approved) driver’s license is a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification. May be required to work unusual hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Basic computer skills.

 

Education/Training/Experience

  • Ability to calculate basic math and perform complex calculations for specialized projects.
  • Ability to read blueprints, work from plans and specifications to determine layout of water supply, waste, and venting systems.
  • Must be knowledgeable with plumbing codes.
  • Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and completion of a recognized apprenticeship for plumber, or 5 years of experience as a journey level plumber.
  • Must be familiar and comply with OSHA standards and company safety policies.

 

Physical Capabilities

  • Continuous bending, stretching, kneeling over extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds of material on a continuous basis.
  • Able to do overhead work.
  • Health compatible with a construction site environment.
  • Have the ability to work in 90+ degree heat for at least 8 hours a day.
  • Being comfortable when working in confined spaces or at great heights.
