Field Supervisor

  ECI is currently seeking a highly motivated and self-directed Field Supervisor to effectively support, train, and lead our field teams on a hazard tree project.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work Safe always, following ECI and clients work safe policies and procedures
  • Ensure that work plans comply with environmental regulations.
  • Perform duties in an unsupervised manner, exercising discretion and judgment based upon environmental knowledge and education, and the project scope.
  • Ensure that field operations are compliant with all permits, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) rules and in compliance with other regulatory requirements.
  • Document field condition prior to and following work completion to assure that mitigation or restoration concerns are met.
  • Regular oversight of work quality following ECI staff QA.
  • Communicate with federal, state and local officials as necessary to answer questions, gain agreement on mitigation methods, and expedite the clearing process.
  • Routinely meet with property owners, utility management personnel, right-of-way maintenance crews, consulting engineers, and project managers to facilitate smooth and cooperative operations.
  • Prevent work delay and work stoppage situations as a result of environmental concerns or conflicts.
  • Dress in appropriate manner for field work and in appropriate business attire for all non-field activities/meetings.
  • Accurately complete and submit all assigned paperwork and documentation.
  • Promptly complete other assigned duties as determined by management.
  • Communicates with ECI employees, clients, and others in a respectful and dignified manner.
  • Demonstrate and share ECI's Vision, Mission, Values, and Principles.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management (or related field) OR 8 years of utility vegetation management experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of green industry (utility vegetation management, landscaping, forestry, etc.) work experience.
  • Must be able to identify trees and read map. GIS/GPS knowledge a plus.
  • ISA Arborist Certification (or obtain within 6 months) required. 
  • Utility Specialist Certification desired.
  • Familiarity with utility vegetation management work practice and proper arboricultural techniques/practices, and legal requirements related to line clearance and fire prevention. 
  • Minimum 4 years of previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Proficient in computer word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Proven independent decision-making and problem-solving skills. 
  • Must be able to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to represent ECI in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to prioritize workload and multi-task
  • Willingness to travel over-night as necessary.
  • Bi-lingual speaking (English and Spanish) is a plus.

Environment

Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including: walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills and slopes; exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions

 

Physical

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (5 to 10 lbs.); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with public; ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction; operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.
