Opportunity 

VC&A is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer in San Diego. This position requires a valid PE license and experience with Caltrans project. The Assistant Resident Engineer position requires the use of engineering judgment to evaluate project construction in compliance with the plans, specifications, standard plans, and standard specifications.

 

Responsibility

The principal duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Resident Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, permits, and other pertinent contract documents
  • Monitoring construction for compliance with contract documents
  • Documenting and informing the Project Representative of relevant observations, including the progress of the work, problems that develop, and work proactively in identifying potential problems/issues
  • Recommending workable solutions to problems/issues encountered for approval by Project Representative
  • Monitoring the contractor’s safety program for compliance with the construction contract requirements
  • Preparing neat and accurate diaries and photographs recording construction progression including thorough and accurate records of the contractor’s operations that Measure, calculate, and document quantities of installed materials in accordance with Project Representatives procedures, format and required computer programs
  • The person in this position must exercise sound engineering judgment and follow through with the contractor on outstanding issues
    • Demonstrate knowledge of pertinent contract documents and references specific to projects
    • Verify that the contractor’s work and materials conform to the contractual requirements
    • Update As-Built drawings
    • Provide support to project team on change order preparation and monitoring
    • Coordinate surveys, material testing and sampling as required

Qualifications

  • Valid California PE license a minimum of 5 years of construction experience and experience with the following:
    • Equipment used in inspection, surveying, and construction office engineering
    • Computers, computer applications, and computer software programs in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, or equivalent)
  • Sandag Experience preferred
