Position Summary:   A highly detailed, organized and communicative individual with an exceptional attention to detail and strong 3D modelling and physical model making skills who enjoys interacting with designers and management to create, produce, manage and finish high quality 3D printed objects. Developing estimates, print pre-flighting and set-up, printer operation & maintenance, and post processing. Operating various output devices (Fused Deposition Modeling, Polyjet and Powder) and appropriate software (Revit, 3D Studio Max, Rhino and Solidworks) within network/cloud environment to produce quality output that meets customer requirements.             

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following and other duties may be assigned

  • Consult with clients to determine their needs in relation to the proposed project and make suitable recommendations to ensure appropriate final output.
  • Work directly with clients to develop timelines, identify material requirements and review all other aspects of the initial design to ensure appropriate final output; answer any questions and concerns relating to 3D modelling and printing.
  • Manage projects from inception to shipping for large or complex models either independently or through delegation to other lab associates depending on required and inventoried skill set within branch. 
  • Develop estimates and quotes.
  • Assist in print pre-flighting and set-up and printer operation.
  • Source and manage vended work in accordance with BluEdge Vended Work Policy and assure receipt of vended work within client required timelines.
  • Plan and execute shipping logistics for complex models.
  • Assist other production associates with post processing including de-powdering, color bonding and removal of support material.
  • Schedule and/or provide maintenance as needed and depending upon certification level and skillset involved for the repair.
  • Conduct required model making processes including repair of damaged models, permanent assembly of multi-component models, fabrication and installation of non-printed model parts, non-standard finishing techniques when required.
  • Execute routine work without supervision.  Receive assistance or instructions from Management for difficult, non-routine work; notify management when work does not meet quality standards and of any discrepancies or questions requiring clarification.
  • Working knowledge of 3D design applications (Revit, Rhino, Solidworks).
  • Calibrate and maintain output devices (Dimension 1200es, Projet 860/660, Connex 350).  Perform routine duties of maintaining equipment in good working order and notify management of need for repair.
  • Able to process, comprehend and follow detailed, written and verbal instructions on customer orders to determine, analyze, and meet customer requirements.
  • Proof finished product to ensure conformance to requirements.
  • Able to organize, wrap, and package models using various methods, and complete work for delivery to customer or next department.
  • Complete paperwork for the billing process.
  • Perform all operations in a workmanlike manner and with proper care of customers’ files & models.
  • Move and handle material as directed or as necessary.

Education and/or Experience:

  • B.A. (preferred) or minimum, Associate’s Degree and/or minimum of two-four years related experience (and/or training); or equivalent combination of education and experience in 3D production / model making environment.
  • Experience with multiple 3D modelling software systems preferred. Must be flexible to training for new skillsets and skillset enhancements and be able to work in a fast paced, tight deadline high pressure environment with the ability to multi-task.

Communications Skills: Must have ability to engage and interact with clients to determine their digital, design and technology needs. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Computer Skills: Strongly prefer proficiency specifically within 3D modelling software packages that may include Magics, Objet Studio, 3DPrint, Solidworks, Z-Brush, etc. (as many of these softwares as possible).

Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • While performing the duties of this job the associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock from computer usage. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The position requires regular, onsite attendance at the designated work location/branch per the assigned hours and work schedule. (Monday through Friday 9:00 am-5:00 pm).
