Assistant Project Manager - Industrial Refrigeration

As Assistant Project Manager, you will provide technical and business support to project management and field leadership, ensuring projects meet design, budget, and quality standards. Position Details:
- Entry Level, construction project management
- Location: Norfolk, VA.
What you will do:
- Responsible for providing project level oversight for industrial refrigeration construction projects, including, but not limited to: customer relations, project quality, progress, contract and job cost management, planning and forecasting.
- Act as primary business manager for ColonialWebb Industrial Refrigeration construction projects.
- Primarily responsible for the redemption of equipment, material and subcontractor estimates. Secondarily responsible for labor and other costs.
- Purchasing responsibility for the majority of non-commodity items, as well as the release thereof.
- Responsible for submittal, operations and maintenance and closeout process.
- Negotiation and pricing of all change orders.
- Development of the initial schedule for CW work on the project.
- Responsible for submission of RFIs and review of responses to determine scope impact.
- Interface with engineering and detailing department to providing required detailing information, resolve conflicts, and discuss ideas to increase project profitability.
- Planning and coordinating with Construction Manager on requirements of the projects as they relate to scheduling, sequence, production, and quality.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with the customer.
- Interpretation of project specification and decision making for choices relating to equipment and materials.

- Knowledge of industrial refrigeration piping systems and equipment associated with ammonia refrigeration systems for food distribution centers, cold storage, and food processing facilities.
- Understanding of food processing, bottling, baking, warehousing and other industries associated with production, storage, packaging and distribution of food products.
- Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of building materials, engineering standards, and codes.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or similar engineering degree program.
- Willingness to travel 30% of the time (15% overnight travel).
- Interest in business and management principles involved in strategic planning, accounting, cost forecasting, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources.
- Client management skills; ability to manage customer relationships, perceptions and expectations.
- Production management skills; ability to visualize, plan, and execute to achieve budgeted goals.
- Ability to deal diplomatically with internal and external customers at various levels within an organization—i.e., owners, GC’s, subcontractors, engineers, superintendents, drafters, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency interfacing with technology, including knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel for cost estimating and engineering functions.
- Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
