Job Description
This position includes but is not limited to operating the asphalt plant to produce paving materials at our Hot Mix Plant in Plain, WI. This is normally a full-time seasonal position and hours for this position are established as needed. Additional hours, including Saturdays and overnight stays a distance from home, are sometimes required to meet the seasonal needs of our business.
Duties
- Experience with working with asphalt (hot mix) materials.
- Operate control house to produce hot asphalt paving materials.
- Have basic knowledge of control circuits and three phase power.
- Observe operation of plant continuously to ensure conformance to processing specifications, including pre-inspection.
- Calibrate plant and bins as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of asphalt and do tank sticks.
- Maintain logs as required
- Check hot oil heater and associated plumbing.
- Ensure that Company equipment is kept clean, in good operating condition and maintained as directed in maintenance schedule.
- Secure and winterize plant for off season.
- Comply with all Company policies, rules, procedures, and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Submit neat, accurate and complete reports as specified.
- Remain in contact by use of Company communications systems (two-way radio, voice mail, etc.).
Nonessential Functions
- Respond to questions and concerns from customers, co-workers or the public courteously and in a timely manner. Refer any insurance or accident-related questions to the human resource department.
- Maintain expertise on current road maintenance issues through ongoing literature surveys and attendance at relevant seminars and meetings as directed.
- Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by upper management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Employee must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written, by phone, two-way radio, in person or through written correspondence; speak effectively with co-workers; and keep accurate, thorough, and timely records and reports.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Employee must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent; and draw and interpret graphs.
EDUCATION: A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Employee must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver License. A Wisconsin Commercial Driver License (CDL), including classes ABCD and endorsements HN preferred. Satisfactory driving record required.
Employee must comply with applicable DOT, OSHA, CDL and any other regulatory required certification or recertification requirements, including physical exams and drug/alcohol tests.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Employee must be able to work with minimal supervision, be flexible, cooperative and take initiative; work well under pressure, plan, be resourceful, and well organized; maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and be polite and professional with the general public; maintain a professional approach towards work and a positive attitude and philosophy consistent with Company standards.
Environmental / Working Conditions
Radiant energy, fumes, mists, gases, dust, pollens, insects, plants, toxic or caustic chemicals, construction equipment, and fast moving vehicles may be found around the work area. The work area is subject to vibration. The work area is subject to loud noises for extended periods of time. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places.
Hours and Availability
This is normally a full-time seasonal position and hours for this position are established as needed to complete the assigned workload. Additional hours, including Saturdays and overnight stays a distance from home, are often required to meet the seasonal needs of our business and to meet certain requirements of the Company. Employee must maintain scheduled attendance at work.
