Tampa Bay Trane is currently looking for an HVAC Sustainability, Energy and Building System Optimization Analyst. May specialize in electrical systems; heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; green buildings; lighting; air quality; or energy procurement. The position requires establishing and maintaining personally challenging achievement goals and exerting effort toward mastering tasks.

Skills:

  • Understanding of control systems/ programming, particularly large building automation systems (HVAC, lighting, etc.), particularly in relation to trends, alarms, set points, and sequence of operations
  • Building systems knowledge: what makes a high performing building and how to achieve it
  • Familiarity with data acquisition programs: 3rd party software designed to collect and organize data for review and analysis
  • Organizational skills to implement multiple building improvement measures, track results, make periodic refinements, and develop alerts and triggers to automatically indicate deviations from the desired performance envelope
  • Ability to identify energy saving opportunities and make recommendations to achieve more energy efficient operation.

Activities:

  • Primary function of role is to analyze building automation system data for inefficiencies and anomalies
  • Develop performance and efficiency improvement reports including recommendations consisting of HVAC / building controls equipment upgrades or system adjustments to drive efficiency and optimization of the building.
  • Data verification and analysis from energy patterns and automation trends
  • Customer site visits to verify condition and configuration of building systems
  • Assist sales force in recognizing opportunities.
  • Install and setup data connectivity equipment (hardware and software)
  • Create, refine and document operational procedures
  • Research and evaluate new tools
  • Help manage the development, design, or construction of energy conservation projects to ensure acceptability of budgets and time lines, or adherence to approved specifications.
  • Conduct energy audits to evaluate energy use, costs, or conservation measures.
  • Conduct jobsite observations, field inspections to collect data for energy conservation analyses.
  • Educate customers on energy efficiency or answer questions on topics such as the costs of running appliances or the selection of energy efficient appliances.
  • Calculate potential for energy savings.
  • Remote monitoring with minimum 2-3 shifts per year in the BAS I call rotation.
  • Recommend energy efficient technologies or alternate energy sources.
  • Quantify energy consumption to establish baselines for energy use or need.

Additional High-valued Skills:

Familiarity or experience with:

  • Existing Building Automation Systems. i.e. Trane, JCI, Allerton, ALC, others
  • Network and IP protocols, ports, security
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Customer's network architecture and connectivity issues
  • Utility hardware: sub-meters, pulse meters, repeaters, wireless communication
  • Measurement and Verification techniques
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various services in the HVAC industry.

Education:

  • 2-year degree in computer science or system networking, or
  • 4-year engineering degree
  • HVAC or BAS Technician Certification
