We have openings at our Burnsville office for Senior Construction Materials Testing Technicians.

Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision, this position performs observations/inspections on construction projects, samples and tests a variety of soils and construction materials in the field and/or in the laboratory and has responsibility for understanding project specific specifications related to the work being observed/tested. Maintains and records log of daily work and tests performed and time and materials expended.

Position Responsibilities:
• Perform observations on projects requiring specialized knowledge in soils, and construction practices using concrete, reinforcing steel and structural steel and determine if the work complies with (or deviates from) construction documents (code, specification, blueprint, reports etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents to determine project details and specifications.
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing with engineers and staff members, agency representatives, contractors and other project stakeholders
• Neatly and accurately complete all required paperwork, including daily reports, test reports and timesheets – in a timely manner
• Records and reports test results after performing mathematical calculations, making graphical solutions and graphical representations
• Collects samples of soils and construction materials in the field to measure physical characteristics
• Performs a variety of tests on construction materials including soils, aggregates, concrete/mortar/grout, reinforcing steel and asphalt using materials-testing equipment
• Mentoring, coaching, and training of less experienced technician staff in the areas of testing and inspection
• Performs maintenance/cleaning of equipment and calibration and adjustments as needed
• Adheres to construction site safety guidelines and promotes a safe working environment
• Comfortable using MS Office applications (Word/Excel/Outlook)
• Willingness to cross train in other departments
• Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:
• Have a positive can do attitude
• Dependable and trustworthy
• Ability to work extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions
• Available to travel to out of town project sites
• Ability to work in team environment as well as independently
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record
• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds

Minimum Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED
• 5 years’ experience in construction observations and construction materials testing
• Construction materials testing related certifications such as ACI, Mn/DOT and ICC

Preferred Education and Experience:
• A two year technical degree from an accredited school related to civil engineering/construction

Note: Depending on your assignment, you may be required to drive your own vehicle suitable for use on construction sites. We will compensate you at the current federal per mile rate for use of your own vehicle for work related activities.
