Job Summary
Within the company framework, the field technician is responsible for performing quality control testing on aggregates supplied to the production site by testing the moisture content, minus #200 sieve and gradations of those materials to insure they meet all corresponding specifications. After concrete is produced at the production facility, quality control testing will be performed by testing the concrete temperature, slump, unit weight, air content and yield to ensure it meets the project specifications and customer needs. At the construction site, check quality and consistency of the product prior to placement. Communicate test results to Operations, Dispatch and Engineering Service’s staff in a timely manner. Work closely with customers and Engineering Service’s staff to solve issues of quality, placement techniques and finishing. Based on customer demands between April and November, may work 8-12 hours a day, two or more Saturdays a month, and at night
- Calibrate production equipment
- Sample and test raw materials for specification compliance
- Perform QC tests such as temperature, slump, unit weight, air content, set time, water/cement ratio and casting strength specimens
- Use test results to make mix adjustments
- Record and report test results to your supervisor, batch personnel, dispatch and the customer
- Required to keep a “daily journal” and fill out “Cemstone sample reports” for each sample taken
- Interact with the customer’s field production and management staff to manage project expectations
- Responsible for maintaining your own testing equipment, including cleaning and proper calibration
- Keep accurate records of company vehicle mileage and maintenance including regular scheduled oil changes as applicable
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory, Technical School graduate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- MN/DOT Plant I Certification or willing to obtain Provisional Certification after hire.
- Ability to speak, write and read English.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Any certifications by ACI and/or MNDOT are preferred but not required.
- Production facilities vary from location to location, but dust, mud and noise may always be present.
