Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to 10 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. Job Description
The Lab Supervisor serves patients by providing medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services. Establishes specimen preparation procedures; implements lab procedures; evaluates laboratory information; reports results according to protocols mandated by Legacy Community Health and the local Public Health Department. The supervisor will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all laboratory practices at Legacy Community Health. The supervisor will be responsible for additional duties outlined below.

Oversees Legacy Community health Clinic laboratory
Participates in developing and implementing laboratory operations
Completes quarterly evaluations of Legacy laboratories and reviews them with laboratory staff in a timely manner
Develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance, safety, security, quality, and accuracy of results
Ensures laboratory staff follow all policies and procedures
Designs and performs test procedures
Ensures all clinic sites have proper laboratory supplies to operate daily clinical functions
Manages laboratory quality by participating in quality improvement programs, collection and review of data, creation of laboratory quality manuals, and evaluation of control tests
Maintains medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting for laboratory instrumentation; ensuring staff compliance
Maintains medical laboratory information by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops
Supervises training and evaluates lab staff on all lab policies and procedures
Performs regular observation of laboratory staff and assesses work skills and behaviors
Manages CLIAA certificates
Lab Technician
Phone consultation with clients regarding test results & health concerns.
Processing of blood and other specimens, ensuring all specimens are properly labeled and packaged for lab pick up.
Performs phlebotomy and other diagnostic tests as needed. Administers oral, intramuscular, SubQ, and topical medications as ordered.
Ensures proper documentation of patient care.
Assists with programs such as the Hazard Communication and Accident Prevention plans associated with OSHA compliance.
Participates in the Performance Improvement Program.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job–related hazards.
• Attends all required safety education programs.
• Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
• Maintains work area and equipment in accordance with Legacy and government standards.
• Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
• Checks on the patient’s environment and equipment to ensure safety. Reports safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
Follows Legacy’s exposure control plans/blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
• Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures and correct use of protective barrier equipment (Universal Precautions).
• Essures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
• Attends annual education programs.
EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Registered or Certified as a Medical Assistant, preferred
• CPR/BLS training required
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Prior experience as medical assistant or similar capacity such as patient care technician or certified nursing assistant, preferred.
• Basic front desk, clerical or support specialist skills/experience helpful.
• Ability to work with clinical staff, work well under pressure, and multitask within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to the concepts of preventive health care program and team approach to health care delivery.
• Phlebotomy skills preferred.
• Experience working with computers.
• Experience working in electronic medical records.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
