This position starts out at $16.15 and up, depending on experience. 

Summary 

Responsible for performing clean-up and routine asphalt plant maintenance and plant operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Perform routine plant maintenance, including clean up.
  • Inspect plant for necessary maintenance and complete repairs as assigned.
  • Operate hand tools and safety equipment including, but not limited to: grease guns, wrenches, shovels, fire hoses and cutting torches.
  • Assist with operations of asphalt plant as directed by supervisor or asphalt plant operator.
  • Be able to work at heights.
  • Obey all safety rules and work in a safe manner.
  • Work alone or work with other employees in a friendly & cooperative manner.
  • Be self-motivated
  • Be receptive to ongoing education about products and how they work.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
  • Communicate inspections to supervisor or asphalt plant operator.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience 

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools related to maintenance and safety equipment.
  • Welding skill not necessary, but a plus. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Valid Driver’s License 

Other Qualifications 

  • Steel toed shoes

  • Must be able to walk up and down ladders and steps.
  • Must be able to hear back up alarms or other noises suggesting danger.
  • Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to crawl in and around hoppers, chutes, etc.
  • Must be able to lift and move 70 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds 25 times per day.
  • Must have good eye, hand coordination, close up vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

This position may require you to wear a half mask respirator at times and therefore, you will be required to be fit tested. Per OSHA “The Respiratory Protection standard, paragraph 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A), states that respirators shall not be worn when facial hair comes between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interferes with valve function. Facial hair is allowed as long as it does not protrude under the respirator seal or extend far enough to interfere with the device's valve function. Short mustaches, sideburns, and small goatees that are neatly trimmed so that no hair compromises the seal of the respirator usually do not present a hazard and, therefore, do not violate paragraph 1910.134(g)(1)(i).

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors near moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level is moderate to extremely loud. 
  • The employee handles oil, antifreeze, battery acid, grease, cleaners, hot asphalt oil and other chemicals on a daily basis.
  • The employee must be able to work in all types of weather, including rain, snow and extreme temperatures.
  • The employee is subject to intense heat, cold, dust, smoke and fumes.
