Job Summary 

Maintain and repair gasoline and diesel powered equipment and vehicles including trucks, draglines, bulldozers, loaders (track and rubber tired), motor grader, automobiles and other bridge construction equipment. Generally work in the Atlantic, Iowa shop. Work Monday to Friday, usually 40-45 hours per week. Must furnish own hand tools.

  • Use and care for tools, equipment and materials
  • Understand and follow equipment maintenance and repair manuals

Specific Duties

  • Perform general mechanical repair work
  • Weld, fabricate and modify equipment
  • Install decals and accessories
  • Operate testing equipment and diagnose malfunctions
  • Fill out reports about maintenance and repair work performed
  • Read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and container labels
  • Identify and communicate safety concerns to management in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

 

Requirements

Education

  • High School graduate or G.E.D. preferred
  • Completion of a two-year technical program in heavy equipment mechanics or four years on-the-job experience preferred
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Understand operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade

Physical

  • Normal range of vision and hearing (with correction)
  • Work in flat, horizontal, vertical and possibly overhead positions
  • Walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, reach, lift and balance
  • Lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
  • Able to operate safely in adverse weather conditions including wind, rain, snow, ice, mud, heat, etc.
