Job Description:
This trainee program provides individuals with the required education and training to become Dump Truck Drivers for Barnhill Contracting Company. Employees will participate in a rigorous training plan qualifying them to acquire a North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License Class B and become a full-time Dump Truck Driver. Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Participate and successfully complete Barnhill Training Program. Upon successful completion must be able to:
- Operate a dump truck.
- Must be able to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection on truck.
- Transport and deliver construction materials to projects in a timely manner.
- Obtain a North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License B and meet the qualifications for Dump Truck Driver.
- May perform other duties or operate other types of trucks.
- Must have adequate reading and writing skills because some paper work is required.
Minimum Qualifications & Training:
- Willingness to become a full-time Barnhill employee after training
- CDL Permit or CDL Class B with less than 1 year experience
- Ability to obtain and hold a Valid Medical Card at employee’s expense
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid North Carolina Class B CDL
- Must be at least 19 years old
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and pre-employment physical
- Ability to satisfactorily complete training program provided by Barnhill Contracting
- Ability to abide by precise instructions.
- Ability to abide by strict but necessary safety rules and polices
- Must be a reliable and trust worthy individual that will be a team player.
- Must maintain a good attendance and safety record.
Tasks Essential to Job Functions:
- Standing and walking required. Able to drive for long periods and ability to stay alert and drive defensively. Ability to climb steps to perform task on the truck.
- Ability to work long periods of time in elevated temperatures due to weather and materials.
- Ability to operate equipment at recommended speeds and peaks of operation.
- Must be productive during each shift and be willing to meet the goals that are set.
- Visual activity - ability to work safely in traffic and to know surroundings while driving, backing and maneuvering in sometimes congested areas.
