IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

 Project Foreman/Superintendent

 LOCATION: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands

CONTRACT DURATION: 6 months

 PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures, using hand tools or power tools including floats, trowels, and screeds. All work performed in a safe and professional manner.

 TYPICAL DUTIES:

  1. Spreads concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, using float to bring water to surface and produce soft topping. 
  2. Levels, smooths, and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete, using power trowel, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
  3. Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  4. Molds expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge. 
  5. May sprinkle colored stone chips, powered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish. 
  6. May produce rough concrete surface, using broom.
  7. May mix cement, using hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
  8. May direct subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms, performing duties as described under Group Leader. 
  9. May specialize in finishing steps and steps and stairways and be designated as Step Finisher. 
  10. May break up and repair old concrete surfaces, using pneumatic tools.
  11. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to get along with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE

 

Educational and experience preferences:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in duties described above and/or equivalent combination of experience and technical training or apprenticeship program.  

 Worker should be able to: Work rapidly and accurately with hands; follow set procedures and standards; compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects; picture objects from drawing or diagrams; rate information using standards that can be measured or checked; calculate amounts of concrete required for each job; and work within precise limits or standards of accuracy. Physically, workers must be able to; Climb and maintain body balance; use hands and arms fully; stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or crouch for long periods; and see well (either naturally or with correction).

COMMENTS:

Willingness to work on a remote tropical island for a minimum of one year. Company paid housing, meals, and transportation. Compensation dependent on experience and qualifications. Must have a US passport, or the ability to obtain one.
