We are currently seeking a Groundperson to join our team

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Performs all work from the ground.
  • Employee will be exposed to hot and cold environments, poisonous plants or reptiles, and stinging insects.
  • Clears work area around structures.
  • Excavates to assist in the installation of structures or cable as required by contract specification.  
  • Will have contact with public and private property owners to communicate work to be performed.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned by Foreperson relating to utility line work.
  • Assembles material on the ground to be installed by the lineperson or apprentice.
  • May flag traffic and may be required to have training.
  • Must obtain your own hand tools within 30 days of hire date.
  • Operates various tools for the work (various manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, come a long, jack hammer and hand line etc.).
  • Works around hazardous equipment
  • Works near energized parts or equipment.
  • Will be exposed to traffic.
  • Works around excessive noise from machines, jackhammers, chain saws and other equipment with proper hearing protection.
  • Work nights, weekends and holidays for extended periods; may be required to perform duties as part of recovery force during emergencies and disasters.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license.
  • Must pass a background check as required per contract.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Due to the inherently hazardous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk, climb and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.
  • Must be able to lift, move and maneuver heavy weights of up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis, but up to 10 lbs. weights on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles and use jackhammer, etc.
  • Must be capable of pulling, pushing, bending, stooping and kneeling on a frequent basis.
  • Must have sufficient eye sight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools and assist other line repairers.
  • Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard ten (10) hour day according to the schedule. Must be able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work.
  • Must have own hand tools within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have transportation to and from the show up location.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Class A CDL license within 90 days.
  • Must pass a background check according to contract requirements.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
