Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently seeking a Power Systems Engineer to perform design, analysis and process activities necessary to implement new and modified substation, transmission, generation, and communications systems. This position will also perform studies necessary to develop system improvement plans, support tariff processes and investigate and recommend appropriate actions that will improve the performance and reliability of various transmission and generation system processes.

The Power Systems Engineer’s duties may include:

  • Plan and manage projects in substation, generation and communication areas, taking ownership and responsibility when assigned.
  • Perform substation, generation and communications system design activities for projects
  • Prepare material specifications, equipment installation specifications and labor installation specifications, and document that equipment, material and work received conform to specifications
  • Analyze the condition of substation and communication equipment and systems through the use and interpretation of appropriate performance measures.
  • Perform analysis on generation production costing, fuel budgeting, and power markets.
  • Manage projects at CIPCO-operated natural gas, solar, and other generating resources.
  • Assist in ensuring accurate data for CIPCO facilities is submitted to appropriate regional transmission organizations and/or power pools to facilitate regional power flow model development efforts. Assist in building and maintaining internal models used to perform power flow studies.
  • Support the procurement of transmission services from regional transmission organizations by employing knowledge of appropriate tariffs. Ensure that CIPCO is in compliance with the terms of such tariffs.

 

Candidates may be a Senior student working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and have proficiency in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office software. Must have excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
