Position Summary

The Project Safety Coordinator will provide support to construction teams located on various project sites. This person will also assist the Safety Department in an effort to enforce the corporate safety and health policies and procedures. In addition to the project site safety responsibilities, they shall participate in and complete all tasks assigned to them by the Safety Department, Project Manager, and Superintendent. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and enforce the Project Safety Program and corporate Safety and Health Program.
  • Assists the Director, Safety with championing Kraus-Anderson’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Provides technical safety advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to all employees regarding Kraus-Anderson’s safety initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible to stay abreast of all necessary State and Federal rules and regulations relevant to our services.
  • Assists Director, Safety with performing in-house training with regard to site safety and safety related regulations, when necessary, as an OSHA 10/30 certified instructor.
  • Assists with writing new company policies and procedures.
  • Assists with reporting, handling, and monitoring of workers compensation, property, and liability claims.
  • Establish and conduct jobsite orientation for every new employee for the project and administer and record new employee participation in the orientation program and issue identification to those employees completing the training.
  • Attend all initial meetings with the project staff and subcontractor representatives to clearly define their role within the confines of the Project Safety Program.
  • Write job hazard analysis for Kraus-Anderson activities and collect/review Job Hazard Analysis for subcontractors.
  • Establish and conduct weekly safety meetings with subcontractor representatives and interface with project staff and each Subcontractor Safety Representative relating to safety regulations to ensure proper compliance.
  • Ensure that Subcontractors are conducting the proper training requirements as per the OSHA standards and review each Subcontractor’s Safety Plan and safety data sheets to ensure that it meets or exceeds the project Safety Program requirements.
  • Ensure that each Subcontractor designates a Safety Representative that is properly trained in OSHA standards.
  • Conduct daily jobsite and work area inspections.
  • Conduct formal daily jobsite inspections and complete the safety checklist; noting safety violations and corrective actions.
  • Record, notify, and prepare written report of any violations or unsafe practices to Subcontractors for immediate correction actions.
  • Assist Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing proper fire prevention, evacuation, and fire control procedures.
  • Investigate all accidents and incidents and generate proper reports. Determine corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Coordinate and conduct daily Kraus-Anderson stretching and flexibility program and weekly Tool Box Talks.
  • Conduct man hour reporting for site.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 2 to 5 years of Safety experience
  • Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques
  • Industrial Hygiene knowledge is required due to contaminates on site which includes working knowledge of air monitoring equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goals
  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Ability to possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others

 Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Safety & Health equivalent or combination of both education and experience in building construction

Other:

  • Valid Driver's License, ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record, and adhere to Kraus-Anderson Motor Vehicle Policy.
  • Periodic local/regional travel is required.
    • Travel to project sites in the Twin Cities metro and outstate MN (average two to four overnights per month).

  • Clearly communicate information (both written and verbal) to colleagues and key stakeholders
  • Read and understand building plans (both printed and digital)
  • Visually inspect large and small structures for accuracy and quality control
  • Navigate in and between non-permanent structures (trailer) and building sites in various stages of development
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
  • Ascend and descend stairs, ladders and scaffolding while maintaining balance and equilibrium
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
