Job Summary

Directly supervise and coordinate activities of a bridge construction crew.  The Foreman may also engage in the trade work of the employees being supervised. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan out each day and communicate to the crew members what activities are to be accomplished.
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.  Bring problems to the attention of the Bridge Manager and Safety Manager if needed.
  • Coordinate, direct and lead workers engaged in the construction activities. 
  • Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork and pride.
  • Review and verify employee time sheets for accuracy before submitting to the timekeepers/Payroll.
  • Analyze and resolve worker issues.  If the problems are around harassment, work with Human Resources to develop a plan of action.
  • Communicate with maintenance staff about maintenance needs on all major pieces of equipment on assigned jobs.
  • Relate to the public and to customers in a professional, courteous and respectful manner.
  • Follow daily Foreman procedures and protocols as set forth in orientations and trainings.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in bridge construction.
  • Strong coordination, time management, active listening and reasoning skills required.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and to work toward the solution of those issues.
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years of related skill, knowledge and experience in bridge construction.
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
  • An unwavering focus on safety.
  • High School degree at a minimum

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma.
  • College degree a plus.
  • 3-5 years of management or supervisor experience.
  • Heavy Equipment operations and Mechanic skills. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Bridge crew members
  • Operators 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Walk, bend, kneel, climb, lift, stretch and sit.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Be able to lift 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work long hours daily (14 +)
  • Travel required.
