Job Description
GEI’s Boston area office is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Engineer. This individual will provide support to field- and office-related efforts. Field activities may include: coordinating and performing oversight of soil borings and installation of groundwater monitoring wells; collection and laboratory analysis of groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, soil vapor and air samples; operation of air monitoring equipment; and remedial construction oversight and management. Office tasks may include: compilation and review of data and preparation of draft reports and work plans.
Primary responsibilities:
- Conduct environmental site assessments, including soil borings, monitoring well installation, and environmental sampling.
- Provide technical oversight to subcontractors, including documenting construction activities and reviewing project specifications.
- Perform data management and analysis.
- Perform geologic interpretation or engineering calculations
- Draft correspondence and reports.
- This position has a field component; travel and some overnight travel are required. Candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Geology, or Civil or Environmental Engineering
- 0-2 years of previous professional experience in environmental consulting, knowledge of MA MCP environmental regulations is a plus.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER training is a plus.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s license.
- Excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, CAD, MS Office, MS Project, PowerPoint, and other computer applications. Experience with GIS software a plus.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills are required
- Willingness and ability to travel on short-term assignments as needed.
- Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight year round, as required without restrictions.
