KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule and direct day-to-day QC technician activities. Assist technicians when needed.
  • Create technician job descriptions. Assist in the hiring of new technicians.  Develop a technician training program for each level of expertise.  Continually evaluate technicians.  Perform annual technician reviews. 
  • Take a lead role in the design and construction of new laboratory facilities. Ensure existing facilities are maintained to provide a clean, functional and safe working environment. 
  • Analyze, summarize and archive construction material test results. Make informed decisions resulting in the necessary adjustments to stay in compliance.  Ensure accurate reporting.   
  • Become familiar with asphalt mixture material costs. Analyze blends and make adjustments to decrease costs.
  • Purchase laboratory supplies, inventory current equipment, recommend new equipment purchases, solicit quotes and keep equipment in compliance with specifications. Create an equipment/supplies/personnel budget annually.
  • Perform annual aggregate quality testing and mix designs in the off-season. Update Mix Design Reports as needed.
  • Coordinate with Plant Manager to schedule and obtain annual asphalt plant certifications from MnDOT.
  • Become knowledgeable with PG binder specifications, testing equipment/procedures, and certification requirements.
  • Train paving personnel on the operation of non-nuclear density devices.
  • Actively participate on the Quality Committee.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving quality related issues on projects.
  • Other duties to be assigned.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ Years of Experience in HMA QA/QC Operations
  • MnDOT Bituminous Plant 2 Certification
