Position Overview:

The Quality Control Technician position is responsible for testing concrete and aggregates while following safety and operational guidelines. This position will also perform tests on concrete in its plastic state, sample and perform aggregate gradations and maintain courteous customer relations. This position is full time, requires regular travel and overtime with occasional weekends through peak season.

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Troubleshoot, identify, correct and prevent quality control issues
  • Perform field and lab testing on aggregates and concrete
  • Maintain Quality Control record-keeping
  • Maintain Quality Control field and laboratory equipment
  • Maintain good relations with plant personnel, customers, engineering technicians, supervisors, IDOT, MNDOT, County Inspectors, etc.
  • Maintain daily diary of Quality Control operations
  • Maintain safe practices at all times and report injuries to management as necessary
  • Understand mix designs, water/cement ratios, batching equipment, batching processes, Quality Control documentation, etc.
  • Assist plants during production
  • Adjust concrete as needed to meet specifications
  • Train production personnel on the basic concrete testing procedures such as air, slump, temperature, etc.
  • Cross-train with applicable positions

Position Requirements:

  • Consent to authorization of a pre-employment work screen
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Consent to authorization of a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record request
  • State DOT Certifications
  • ACI certifications
  • OSHA Training
  • Microsoft Office Skills
  • Basic level of reasoning abilities (i.e. Meeting deadlines, Prioritize Company and customer needs, serve as a leader to both peers and direct reports)
  • Strong mathematical skills (i.e. Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide)
  • Possess excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • MSHA Training
  • Knowledge of Concrete and Aggregate testing
  • IDOT and MNDOT PCC1 and 2/Aggregates
