Title: Inventory Control Specialist

Reports to: Assistant Vice President of Operations

Based in: Distribution Center – Middle Village, NY

Compensation:

  • Salary: $13.00-15.00/hour, depending on experience

Job purpose:  To actively participate in inventory management, in order to effectively develop and enhance ABCO’s inventory availability and accuracy.  This will directly contribute to ABCO’s mission of exceeding customer’s highest expectations by:

  • Helping to ensure that ABCO’s inventory is accurate and current, ultimately ensuring that up-to-date inventory and product information is available for customers.
  • Supporting the Inventory Department’s administrative functions, allowing the department to remain organized and functioning in an efficient manner, in order to effectively support the Sales team in providing ABCO customers with the high quality service to which they customers have become accustomed.

Requirements:

  • Experience: At least 1 year experience in inventory control or customer service, or in an administrative function in a distribution or warehouse environment
  • Education: high school diploma
  • Skills, traits, and abilities:
    • Experience with Hi-lo, order picker, or similar equipment a plus
    • Ability to physically perform stock checks
    • Ability to perform multiple, simultaneous tasks in a fast paced environment
    • Ability to understand, record, and communicate material and product information
    • Well organized
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to work weekends when necessary
    • Ability to work overtime based on business needs
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer Skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook
    • Experience with an ERP / WMS is a strong plus
  • Travel and Time
    • This position requires the ability to travel to outside locations/branches for about 15% of the time.
    • This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, and possibly weekends, based on business needs (especially during the summer and during the YE Inventory period).

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Inventory Control Functions
    • Researches and reconciles inventory variances throughout the year, with an emphasis during Spring and Year End Inventory
    • Assists with addressing and facilitating vendor recalls
    • Performs physical stock checks in the Distribution Center warehouse
    • Conducts full physical inventory counts and posts results
    • Summarizes and files inventory research results
    • Ensures that necessary stock checks are performed, by either performing them on his or her own, or by assigning others to complete them when appropriate
    • Performs data entry relating to physical counts during Spring and Year End Inventory, special projects, and as directed
    • Posts scheduled cycle counts
    • Addresses damages and codes them appropriately
  • Administrative Support
    • Maintains and organizes department files, folders, and paperwork
    • Provides administrative support to the department, including, but not limited to:
      • Assisting with open transactions that impact postings
      • Ensuring product lines are on / off depending on count schedule
      • Following up as necessary to ensure inventory is clean and accurate
      • Validating received quantities on POs and transfers
    • Answers telephone and greets internal customers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Position Knowledge and Training
    • Maintains thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of SxE functionality for day-to-day functions of the Distribution Center
    • Attends all mandated company training programs as directed
    • Attends safety meetings and training programs as directed
    • Attends training to addresses communications such as email, documentation, and telephone etiquette, on a yearly basis
