JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Planner is a key member of the Dylan’s Candy Supply Chain team who will be responsible for analyzing and planning the inventory needs for the three main business units: Retail, Wholesale and E-Commerce. The primary responsibility of this position is to forecast at the SKU level the amount of purchases and timing of deliveries needed for each of the business units’ needs.

Additionally, the Planner will be responsible for allocating the inventory to the various stores and business units and maintaining desired inventory levels. This individual will work closely with the Buying/Product Development team as well as members from the three business units in order to develop appropriate purchase plans that maximize profits while minimizing inventory levels.

The individual must be a self-starter who can quickly learn the inventory system and develop the planning system for this growing business.  In addition to the forecasting role, the Planner will monitor all divisions’ sales and highlight trends, report on aged and discontinued inventory and delivery issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Set and monitor optimal inventory levels on a quarterly basis for each of our stores and selling channels, including wholesale, e-commerce, and international divisions
    • Forecast sales and recommend purchase order quantities for long lead items to maximize both inventory turns and freight efficiency, at least quarterly. 
    • Monitor and report on sales trends, stock turn, fill rates, and margins on individual SKU's as well as product categories 
    • Allocate seasonal inventory within our retail and ecommerce channels
    • Monitor inventory loss based on categories such as expiration, damages, and cycle counts.  Help identify strategies to minimize aged inventory, inventory with expiration dates, discontinued items, and overstock inventory
    • Assist channel partners with any inventory needs
    • Manage orders and order flow to support forecasts based on delivery parameters
    • React to changes in forecast in a timely manner
    • Communicate forecast risks or opportunities to the appropriate division
    • Insure accuracy of inventory and forecasting systems data
    • Report and follow-up action on backorders, late orders, and other inventory issues
    • Support Sales Units with stock purchases and or/forecasts as needed
    • Maintain monthly Open to Buy budgets to prevent overspend.  

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

    • Superb MS Excel skills
    • Familiar with Open to Buy Concepts and managing an OTB
    • Experience with food, life cycle expiration, and seasonal purchasing
    • Experience with markdown strategy and exiting product lines
    • Experience with NetSuite a plus
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are necessary
    • Organization, creative problem-solving, team-player and a continuous improvement mentality are key qualities for success in this career
    • Minimum 5-7 years as a planner, buyer, or analyst
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field
