Job Summary
The primary function of the Tankerman is to prepare the barge(s) or boat for safe transfer of all cargoes. To transfer cargoes following all regulatory laws and be proactive in environmental safety. To always operate equipment safely. To follow all company policy and procedures and to practice stop work authority at any time he or she deems necessary. Show a high degree of integrity and self-competence with safe work sense forethought.

Management Responsibilities
- Give direction to individuals who may be assisting during transfers on Atlas Marine equipment
Required Education / Certifications
- High School Graduate/GED minimum
- Valid USCG Merchant Mariner Document, Tankerman Endorsement of DL cargoes minimum
- Valid Driver License
- Valid TWIC
Primary Responsibilities & Scope
- Prepare barges and equipment for the loading and discharging of cargoes, and perform the loading and discharging of products
- Prepare Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before each transfer
- Secure vessel and or barge by handling lines and cables to tie and untie barges and boats as well as connect and disconnect transfer hoses
- Perform scheduled vessel maintenance care for tools and equipment, and perform general housekeeping duties
- Make certain that all federal and state required documents are up to date and readily available
- Able to communicate with all personnel involved in the transfer and ensure that each person participating understands what the product is and how it should be transferred including transfer rates
- Must be able to work a rotating six hours on and six hours off or 12 on 12 off watch schedule, and occasionally work different hours not to exceed sixteen consecutive hours in a 24 hr. period
- Must adhere and comply to all company policies, United States Coast Guard and environmental regulations
- Be competent in deck work, line handling and tow building
- Troubleshoot barge problems such as engine starter issues, checking oil levels and radiator fluids
- Report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to the Tankerman Supervisor and make on the spot corrections when capable if so directed by the Tankerman Supervisor
- Follow all inventory stocking procedure and ensure all stocks are available
- Other duties may be assigned as needed and as directed
Required Experience
- Experience: Must have a minimum of 2-5 years of tankering experience; general decking experience, line handling and tow building. Understands basic barge gauging principals
- Computer Skills: Proficient with MS Word and email
- Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and understandably both verbally and in writing
- Have Reliable Transportation to and from job sites
