WSB is seeking an industry expert to lead our Transportation Design activities which include design, engineering and project management for projects of all sizes. As the Director of Design - Transportation, you will serve in a “seller / doer” role as well as provide team leadership and thought leadership within the group.
What You Will Do:
Marketing and Business Development: You will lead team efforts to develop and build relationships with current and future clients as well as other industry contacts. You will inquire of, suggest, respond to and track upcoming projects and programs. You will also lead and participate in proposal development activities including updating and tracking all activities and opportunities in our CRM system.
Project Delivery: You will oversee or lead long-range transportation project, concept development, preliminary design and final design on State, County and City systems. You will also lead in the design of pedestrian and bicycle plans, support the development of environmental documents in providing impacts, cost estimates and schedules. As part of this position, you will be expected to write technical reports and memos, develop materials for public and agency meetings, correspond with internal and external clients, and coordinate with multiple agencies/organizations and the public. You will also be expected to help create, track and meet project budgets and schedules. You will be expected to provide oversight and management to the Transportation Design service area.
You will use your technical skills to apply transportation methods, engineering principles, standard industry evaluations and analyses to produce transportation projects of all sizes.
Team Leadership: You will oversee and manage the Transportation Design team. This will include both project / program team leadership as well as individual and team-based staff management activities including: talent acquisition, staff development and performance management.
Thought Leadership: You will use your thought leadership to strategically research and identify client challenges, propose solutions, solve problems and resolve issues. Your thought leadership skills will also provide direction and growth opportunities for the Transportation Design Team as well as new and existing staff. You will be expected to participate in national discussions and maintain knowledge and influence in the state of the art practices for transportation design.
What You Will Bring: The successful candidate will have at a minimum a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited program and their PE license with the ability to obtain your Minnesota PE license within 6 months. The successful candidate will also have at least ten years of applicable experience, strong interpersonal and time management skills. A valid driver's license and good driving record are also required. Our preferred candidate will have fifteen or more years of applicable experience.
