Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Principal Engineer

The Principal Engineer is responsible for the performance and attainment of objectives of the Energy Delivery Engineering team.  The Principle Engineer provides technical and administrative leadership,  financial management and staff coaching and development.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish strategic direction for Energy Delivery Engineering team ensuring alignment with the corporate objectives and group related targets
  • Develops and review engineering standards for the energy delivery system
  • Develop, prepare, monitor and control capital and operational budgets
  • Manage engineering projects and participate in the technical aspects of key company projects
  • Ensure that there is optimum communication with key business partners, colleagues, external stakeholders, senior management and Board of Directors
  • Identify new technologies and resolve system issues in collaboration with other engineering professionals, external consultants, OEM’s and vendors
  • Provide strong leadership, coaching and mentoring for engineering staff

Key Job Requirements:

  • Electrical Engineering degree from a recognized University or equivalent qualification, satisfying the requirement of registration as a professional or chartered engineer
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience with electrical utility energy delivery systems
  • Proven management and leadership experience
  • Experience developing and managing CAPEX and OPEX budgets
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial best practices relating to transmission and distribution systems
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable engineering Codes, Standards and Regulations
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and regulations
  • Strong project management skills; project management designation would be an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the area of report writing and presentations
