Job Description

This individual will drive learning theory innovation and thought leadership by defining and developing strategy for learning effectiveness and business impact for Vertex Solutions. The Sr. Learning Strategist has an exceptionally developed learning point of view, clearly articulated in a variety of creative and compelling learning situations from web-based training (WBT), to game-based and mobile learning applications, to virtual reality simulations. This individual is an expert in Instructional Systems Design, front-end analysis, and assessment strategies and will be our “go-to” person for all approaches for proposal efforts and white papers. Additionally, the Sr. Learning Strategist will supervise and mentor junior- to mid-level Instructional Systems Designers on project work and practice-related process improvement activities.

Essential Functions

  • Learning Strategy:
    • Collaborate with clients to identify strategic and tactical goals for each training engagement
    • Identify critical knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to support client training objectives
    • Evaluate existing curricula for effectiveness and instructional soundness, evaluate goals and objectives, and then plan the strategic approach for each training engagement to provide faster learning, better memory retention, and more direct job application
    • Develop an instructional strategy for different training or learning interventions based upon established learning objectives, learner needs and characteristics, and learning environment
    • Recommend measurement and assessment strategies for learning activities
    • Research and evaluate leading-edge learning concepts and techniques to determine relevant application
    • Coordinate and develop relationships with other stakeholders, institutions, and industry experts to obtain external expertise, best practices, and collaboration to further expand instructional technology base
  • Client Work
    • Build and maintain strong client relationship at all levels of an organization to achieve a trusted advisor status, service as the primary interface between the client and the development team, and take action that demonstrates a client-centric orientation
    • Creatively apply extensive knowledge of adult learning theories, user-centric design, and business and organizational acumen to develop innovative and engaging performance improvement programs
    • Provide instructional design, consulting, and/or project management of assigned projects on strategic and key accounts, with other project assignments as needed
    • Work closely with content, graphics, and development teams to develop products, achieve cost and quality targets and ensure on-time delivery
    • Ensure client satisfaction throughout the lifecycle of the assigned projects
  • Contribute to the Vertex ISD practice:
    • Model professionalism to inspire collegiality and productivity on the ISD team
    • Seek professional development in areas of responsibility in accordance with Vertex’s business needs
    • Stay abreast of changes in instructional design and adult education, particularly as related to the impacts of emerging technology such as VR/AR, biometric measurement for assessment, etc.
    • Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and guidance to all members of the instructional design team
    • Build strategic relationships with staff, partners, and customers to enhance the work environment, product quality and success, and client satisfaction
  • Business Development
    • Provide instructional systems design and learning expertise during the proposal writing process, as required
    • Formulate custom technical approaches for proposals and white papers
    • Develop level of effort estimates to scope new work for proposals

This job operates in an office environment.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work on a computer for long periods to time. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop and kneel. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to ten pounds as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 0900 - 1600 and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

This position requires interaction with the customer and thus will require between 10-20% travel to successfully deliver on commitments.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, English, Education, or similar discipline, including adult learning theory
  • 8+ years’ experience in instructional design
  • 3+ years’ experience writing technical approaches for proposals and white papers
  • Demonstrated experience with the ADDIE model
  • Demonstrated experience in adult learning theory, practice methodologies, and evaluation practices
  • Demonstrated experience working in a project team environment and ensuring personal deliverables meet the needs of other team members
  • Proven ability to think creatively in time-sensitive situations to ensure the delivery of high quality and innovative learning solutions
  • Experience designing training for multiple delivery methods, including instructor-led, eLearning, simulation, and mobile learning
  • Experience in the simultaneous management of several projects
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Experience with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Adobe Animate, Articulate Storyline, Lectora, etc.)
  • Experience designing training for multiple delivery methods, including instructor-led, eLearning, simulation, and mobile learning
  • Experience interfacing with clients and synthesizing their needs
  • Experience with Section 508 compliance and the necessary considerations when designing learning solutions with those requirements

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Doctorate degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or similar discipline
  • Experience with one or more of the following
    • Designing training for virtual reality or mobile modalities
    • Synchronous learning tools (e.g., Adobe Presenter, Adobe Connect)
    • Learning Management Systems (LMSs), Learning Content Management Systems (LCMSs), or Talent Management Systems (TMSs)
    • SCORM or xAPI

Work Authorization/Security Clearance
