Heiman, Inc. is hiring an additional Fire Apparatus Technician to perform major and minor mechanical and electrical repairs and adjustments on heavy-duty gasoline and diesel-powered fired apparatus and related equipment and trucks

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Inspect and test work performed by shop personnel to ensure quality of service performed and compliance with standard operating procedures, federal regulations, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and emissions regulations
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical failure and defects in fire apparatus and other equipment under supervision
  • Perform extensive major overhauls and repairs on all types of fire apparatus including fire pumps
  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair electrical defects, repairing or replacing starting motors, generators, and ignition systems; repair and overhaul fire suppression components and related equipment.
  • Perform complete fabricating and repairing to repair, alter, or maintain Fire Department equipment and trucks; performs complete routine maintenance including oil changes and lubrication services; perform CHP 90-day compliance inspections and fire pump tests.
  • Install or replace filters, belts, or other objects to repair equipment
  • Complete time and material records.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; one year of mechanical or related experience preferred
  • Previous experience with fire apparatus preferred and/or fabrication experience but will train the right person
  • Valid Class B CDL driver’s license and good driving record (or able to obtain CDL within 6 months)
  • Certified forklift operator (training will be provided)
  • Must have excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities
  • Able to read, write, sort, check, count and verify numbers
  • Able to operate equipment used in repairing or servicing construction equipment;
  • Able to read and understand shop manuals and mechanical diagrams;
  • Able to follow written and oral directions; perform work safely;
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use computer software program
  • Ability to travel and make occasional, on-site service repair calls

  • Previous experience relating to fire trucks, fire apparatus or safety equipment
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
