SUMMARY: The GIS Designer is responsible for the updating and maintenance of United’s mapping database. This position works and corresponds with management and contractors to gather the correct information and implementing it in a timely manner. Attend meetings, training's and other events to generate GIS data and up to date as-built projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Initial map prep for United implementation(s)
  • Intensive detailed map work
  • Interpret as-built project information and relate it to the base map
  • Work directly with construction contractors when appropriate
  • Create a variety of map products on a daily basis.
  • Create, edit and consume data from multiple sources and in various formats (Geodatabases, Web Services, etc.).
  • Potentially coordinate and conduct internal training
  • Maintain the team’s goals and quality control throughout project development and completion.
  • Continuously seek and suggest new approaches to GIS leadership including, but not limited to practices and processes to improve the quality and efficiency
  • QA/QC all work products.
  • Interpret internal United requests, including but not limited to GIS, Training, etc. and ensure deliverables are evaluated and have met client expectations.
  • Serves at the direction of the Engineering Manager and performs additional duties as required.

JOB QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Experience, Skills, and Licenses/Certificates

  • Bachelor of Science in GIS or other technically related field required.
  • 1-2 years’ related professional experience preferred.

Knowledge and Personal Qualifications:

  • Intermediate knowledge and capability to work with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Basic knowledge or experience with AutoCAD Map3D (ELations Mapping) or ESRI ArcGIS Software Suite (Desktop, Pro, Online, Enterprise, Apps).
  • Experience and familiarity with field data collection methods preferred.(Trimble GPS)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to defuse tension within project team or between teams, should it arise.
  • Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Industry specific knowledge in disaster or emergency response a plus.
