POSITION SUMMARY:
The Memory Care Director is responsible for the Memory Care Program and all Memory Care functions within each Pegasus Community. S/he is responsible for the day to day operations of Memory Care including hiring, training, supervision, support and coaching employees. S/he is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of programs, teaching the Community team to engage in programming with the residents, and resident/family satisfaction. To develop, coordinate and implement programs and services for residents with cognitive impairment; to provide a therapeutic environment that maintains each resident’s highest level of physical, social, and psychological well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

2. Provides meaning and purpose in the lives of our residents. We will accomplish this by providing programs that support life roles and functions that are important to preserving their value, self-esteem and confidence
3. Develops, assures and conducts an innovative seven day a week activity program that is engaging and promotes self-esteem and confidence
4. Supports the resident’s abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an activity
5. Residents are encouraged to and supported in making choices. All care and support are offered in keeping with their lifelong values, preferences, and interests
6. Develops and evaluates therapeutic programming that reflects the residents in regard to background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capacity, including parallel programming that will maximize resident participation
7. Encourages and motivates residents to attend and participate in programming and activities
8. Ensures programming will be heavy in the Creative Arts such as gardening, music, art, visual arts, food as art and will involve children, pets, social interactions and movement
9. Coordinates Resident Choice Dining, Pegasus Snack program, and special events with the Dining Service Director
10. Provides a person-centered approach to dementia care. Our residents will enjoy the highest possible quality of life and quality of care by being engaged in meaningful relationships which are based on equality, understanding, sharing, participation, collaboration, dignity, trust and respect
11. Focus of care is on relationships as opposed to tasks
12. Assures that resident lifestyle-programming assessments are completed on a timely basis and information is utilized to develop individualized programming. Communicate information to all Memory Care associates
13. Works with Health and Wellness Director in the development and implementation of the resident’s Service Plan based on family interview and on-going assessment of resident needs
14. Works with Health and Wellness Director to evaluate the care delivered to ensure compliance with the resident Service Plan and Memory Care Standards and Practices
15. Works with Health and Wellness Director to interview and assess all residents and families prior to move-in, as well as coordinate the pre-move-in screening
16. Provides, as needed, resident and family services such as counseling, problem solving, referral and advocacy utilizing community professionals when appropriate
17. Conducts regular staff meetings and monthly Dementia Education sessions to ensure the staff expands its knowledge and expertise
18. Assists in organizing and facilitating monthly educational meetings for families, volunteers and general community
19. Completion of the Monthly Quality Indicator Report
20. Ongoing evaluation and assessment of the Memory Care to define needs and opportunities for growth
21. Actively participates in weekly Resident Tracking Meetings with the community tea
22. Reviews and demonstrates fire, safety, and elopement procedures
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, or related field
2+ years of experience in direct management in providing special care for persons with dementia
Strong background in assessing residents' behavioral symptoms and developing non-pharmacologic approaches to meeting their needs
Must be able to relate professionally and positively to facility staff and to work cooperatively with associates of all levels and communicate effectively with residents and family members.
